Baseball gets first win; tennis sweeps Hamilton

Cooperstown celebrated senior night with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Hamilton in a Center State Conference non-division match Monday, April 28, at The Clark Sports Center.
In the opening match, at first singles, freshman Henry Ayers defeated James Hanmer, 10-1. At second singles, Owen Marling defeated Andrew Holm, 10-8. At third singles, eighth grader Alfred Hom defeated Vivi Linden, 10-0.
At first doubles, junior Bianca Adam and senior Lexi Wolfe defeated Elijah Meyers and Tyler Kowalski, 10-2. At second doubles, junior Rigzin Gazan and seventh grader Emmett Ayers defeated Matthias Page Fagon and Shun Xin Zheng, 10-2.
In the second match, at first singles, Owen Marling defeated James Hanmer, 10-6. At second singles, Bianca Adam defeated Andrew Holm, 10-6. At third singles, Lexi Wolfe defeated Vivi Linden, 10-3.
At first doubles, Henry Ayers and Alfred Hom defeated Elijah Meyers and Tyler Kowalski, 10-2. At second doubles, eighth grader Micah Raffo and sophomore Hayden Spencer defeated Matthias Page Fagon and Shun Xin Zheng, 10-2.
Cooperstown (5-0, 2-0) is at Waterville for a CSC Division I match Tuesday, April 29.
BASEBALL
Cooperstown 8, Clinton 4
Senior Aaron Katz and junior Wyatt Butts each had two hits and sophomore Brody Murdock got the win on a six-hitter as Cooperstown won its first game of the season beating Clinton in a Center State Conference non-division match Monday at Doubleday Field.
The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Katz scored twice and had an RBI double to left center field. Butts scored a run. Junior Christian Lawson had a hit and scored twice. Junior Joey DeSanno had a hit and scored a run and senior Adam Ubner had drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI.
Murdock pitched five innings giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts.
Sophomore Elijah McCaffrey earned the save, pitching two hitless innings in relief, while striking out three batters.
Cooperstown (1-1, 0-0) will play at Hamilton in a CSC Division II game Wednesday, April 30.
