Basketball teams get big wins Thursday
Volleyball improves to 3-0 with win at Westmoreland on Wednesday

BOYS BASKETBALL
Cooperstown 90, Sauquoit Valley 38
Sophomore Brody Murdock scored a game-high 17 points and five Hawkeyes scored in double figures as Cooperstown blew out visiting Sauquoit Valley in a Center State Conference Division III game Thursday, Dec. 12, at Red Bursey Gymnasium.
The Hawkeyes led after one quarter, 27-7, and outscored the winless Red Hawks in every quarter.
Senior Cooper Bradley had 10 rebounds and 13 points. Juniors Christian Lawson and Jackson Crisman each scored 14 points. Junior Miles Nelen scored 13 points. Junior Ben Lewis had 10 rebounds and scored two points.
Cooperstown (3-0, 2-0) hosts Poland for a non-division game Wednesday, Dec. 18.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cooperstown 73, Morrisville-Eaton 26
Seventh grader Emma Johnson scored a game-high 17 points to help Cooperstown to a big road win over Morrisville-Eaton in a Center State Conference Division II game Thursday, Dec. 12.
Johnson topped her previous varsity best of 15, set one game earlier, by making five two-point baskets, two three-pointers and a free throw.
The Hawkeyes took control of the game earlier, with a 29-8 run in the first quarter, led by senior Mia Kaltenbach’s eight points. The Hawkeyes led at halftime, 45-14.
Kaltenbach scored 10 points total and also had five steals, four assists, and three rebounds.
Eighth grader Lanie Nelen scored 14 points, her varsity high. Senior Polly Kennedy had a double double, 12 rebounds and 13 points, which is her varsity high.
Senior Brenna Seamon scored 10 points and also had eight steals and five rebounds. Senior Bella Reich scored five points and junior Katie Crippen had four points six rebounds and four steals.
Cooperstown (3-1, 1-0) hosts Hamilton for a division game Monday, Dec. 16.
VOLLEYBALL
Cooperstown 3, Westmoreland 1 (Wednesday)
Senior Alexis Wolfe has seven aces and six kills as Cooperstown won at Westmoreland, 25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, Wednesday, Dec. 11, in a Center State Conference Division II match.
Senior Josie Funari led the team in digs with 15, and she also had three aces and a kill. Senior Grace Sperry led the team in blocks with three, and kills with seven, and she also had two assists.
Wolfe led the team in aces and also in assists, with 15, and she also had eight digs.
Junior Jensen Merwin had 12 digs. Junior Mia Pelcer had six kills, five digs, an ace and a block. Senior Sophia Badgley had three kills and an ace. Senior Alissa Thayer had six kills, a block and an ace.
Cooperstown (3-0, 1-0) hosts Clinton on Friday, Dec. 13, and Mount Markham on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in key division matches. Junior varsity games begin at 5:30 p.m. and varsity games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s theme is holiday spirit and there will be prizes awarded for most festively dressed.
