Basketball teams, volleyball all win big Friday
Johnson nets varsity highs for points; Badgley, Furnari make seven kills, three aces each
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cooperstown 69, Waterville 25
Seventh grader Emma Johnson scored a varsity high of 20 points as Cooperstown dominated Waterville in a Center State Conference Division II game Friday, Jan. 10, at Red Bursey Gymnasium.
Johnson, who also had six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block, scored 17 points Dec. 12, at Morrisville-Eaton.
Cooperstown led after one quarter, 20-5, and at halftime, 39-10.
Senior Brenna Seamon scored 10 points and had seven steals, six rebounds and four assists. Senior Polly Kennedy scored 10 points and had seven rebounds. Eighth grader Lanie Nelen scored 10 points. Senior Mia Kaltenbach scored eight points and had four steals and three assists. Senior Bella Reich scored eight points. Junior Katie Crippen scored three points and had six rebounds and four steals.
Julianna Eisenhut scored 14 points to lead Waterville (1-8, 0-4).
Cooperstown (9-3, 2-1) plays a division game at Sauquoit Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cooperstown 97, New York Mills 39
Junior Miles Nelen scored 28 points as Cooperstown won its 10th game of the season Friday with a Center State Conference Division III win at New York Mills.
Cooperstown led after one quarter, 28-16, and at halftime, 52-27.
Senior Cooper Bradley scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds*, junior Cooper Coleman scored 14 points, sophomore Brody Murdock scored 10 points and junior Christian Lawson scored nine points.
David Goodfriend scored 20 points to lead New York Mills (2-5, 1-2).
Cooperstown (10-0, 5-0) hosts Hamilton (8-0, 5-0) in a CSC DIII showdown Monday, Jan. 13.

VOLLEYBALL
Cooperstown 3, Sauquoit Valley 1
Seniors Sophia Badgley and Josie Furnari each had seven kills and three aces as Cooperstown earned its 10th win of the season with a 25-12, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 victory over host Sauquoit Valley in a Center State Conference Division II match Friday.
Furnari also led the team in digs with 35. Badgley also had two digs and an assist.
Senior Alexis Wolfe led the team in assists, with 25, and also had seven digs, three aces and two kills. Junior Mia Pelcer had five kills. Junior Kayleigh Butler had 18 digs and two aces. Junior Jensen Merwin had 18 digs, five aces, an assist and a kill. Junior Chloe Jubar had five kills, a block and a dig. Senior Grace Sperry had five kills, three blocks and an assist.
Cooperstown (10-1, 4-1) is at Herkimer for a CSC non-division match Tuesday.
