CCS soccer alum have great fall
Six former Hawkeyes took the college pitch this season, capped by Diamond's trip to the NCAA Tournament
Cooperstown’s status as a soccer school was certainly enhanced by the number of graduates of Cooperstown Central School who were competing at the next level this fall. The recaps below were made possible by photos, statistics and game recaps provided by the various collegiate sport information departments and their websites.
MEAH BOYLES
SUNY Canton:
Meah Boyles ('21), a sophomore midfielder for the SUNY Canton women’s soccer team, appeared in all 16 games, with nine starts this season and 748 minutes played.
The Kangaroos (Roos) finished the season with a record of 0-12-4, 0-6-2 in NAC conference play.
Boyle is a criminal investigations major and was named to the NAC Fall 2022 All-Academic Team.
COLBY DIAMOND
SUNY Poly:
Colby Diamond ('23), a freshman forward for the SUNY Poly men’s soccer team, appeared in 17 of the team’s 20 games with 13 starts.
He led the team in goals scored with eight and added an assist for a total of 17 points, which included a hat-trick on his birthday.
The Wildcats finished with a record of 13-6-1 and did not lose in NAC conference play, ending with a 7-0-1 record.
Poly won the NAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where it lost, 2-1, to Amherst College in the first round on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
Diamond, who led the Hawkeyes to two regional titles and had the assist on two of the biggest goals in Cooperstown boys soccer history, is majoring in business administration.
KATE DONNELLY & ASHLEY KIUBER
SUNY Poly:
Kate Donnelly ('20) and Ashley Kiuber ('20) also finished their collegiate careers, closing out four-years with SUNY Poly this fall.
After their freshman season in 2020-21 was cancelled by the pandemic, the close friends and former high school teammates played three seasons in Utica.
Donnelly appeared in 45 matches with 35 starts, scoring 13 goals with three assists, for a total of 29 career points.
Kiuber appeared in 43 matches with 35 starts, with six goals and two assists, for a total of 14 career points.
The Wildcats ended their 2023 season with a record of 8-7-2, which was their most wins since the 2017 season. They went 6-2-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.
Donnelly is a business administration major who was named NAC All-Academic Team as a sophomore and junior and NAC Sportsmanship Team as a sophomore.
Kiuber is a nursing major.
P.J. KIUBER
SUNY Broome:
P.J. Kiuber ('23), a freshman defender for the SUNY Broome Community College men’s soccer team, played in eight of 16 games with seven starts.
The Hornets finished their season with an overall of 5-9-2 and went 1-4-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC).
KYLE SANTELLO
Gallaudet University:
Kyle Santello ('19) completed his four-year career on the Gallaudet University men’s soccer team in Washington, D.C.
Santello appeared in 56 games with 43 starts and he started all 14 games he played in each of the past two seasons.
Santello, a defender, scored three career goals for six total points, with two of those scores coming this year. His final goal came on senior night in his final game, the first goal in a 4-2 win over Christendom College on Oct. 27, which was the Bison’s (1-14) only victory this season.
Santello’s major is physical education and recreation and he was named NEAC Scholar-Athlete as a freshman and sophomore and United East Scholar-Athlete as a junior and senior.
