South Kortright 3, Cooperstown 1
DAVENPORT — Declan McCracken had a goal and an assist as South Kortright gave Cooperstown its first loss of the season in boys soccer, 3-1, Saturday, Sept. 24, in the opening round of the Chic Walshe Tournament.
The Rams led 2-0 at half time, but Cooperstown Coach Frank Miosek said he thought his team played better in the second half.
“We outshot them in the second half, we just didn’t get one to go,” he said.
Junior Frank Panzarella gave the Hawkeyes hope early in the second half when he headed in a cross from sophomore Cooper Bradley to make it 2-1 about 6:40 into the half. However, McCracken returned the favor about a minute later at the other end, sending a cross to Jack Byrne for a 3-1 lead.
Jadyn Sturniolo also scored and Connor Quarino had an assist for SK (7-0-1, 3-0-1).
Charlie Lambert has six saves for Cooperstown (6-1-2, 6-0-2), which plays at Old Forge for a Center State Conference non-division game Monday, Sept. 26.
The Hawkeyes beat the Rams in the Chic Walshe final last year, 3-1, and both teams went on to win section and regional titles before losing in the state semifinals. Both teams were ranked No. 5 in the state in their respective classes in boys soccer coming into the game, Cooperstown in Class C and SK in Class D.
