Hawkeyes sweep Little Falls in volleyball playoffs
No. 3 Cooperstown will play at No. 2 Beaver River in semifinals Tuesday

Junior Chloe Jubar had nine kills as No. 3 seeded Cooperstown swept No. 6 seeded Little Falls, 25-20, 29-27, 26-24, in a Section III Class C quarterfinal playoff match Saturday, Feb. 8, at Red Bursey Gymnasium.
Although the Hawkeyes swept Little Falls (13-4), all three sets were competitive and Cooperstown fought off set point in the second and third sets.
Jubar, who also had three aces, two digs, an assist and a block, served out the first set after the Hawkeyes led, 21-20.
In the second set, the teams were tied at 13, 15, 16, 17, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27, with Jubar making kills to tie the game at 27 and for set point.
The Mounties jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set and led by 10 at one point, 23-13. Junior Evie Baldo served Cooperstown back to a tie at 23. Two points later, junior Mia Pelcer made a kill for a tie at 24. Jubar then served out the match for the Hawkeyes.
Senior Alexis Wolfe led the team in assists with 21, and also had six kills, three digs and three aces. Junior Jensen Merwin led the team in digs with 18, and also had two aces, a kill and an assist. Pelcer had seven kills, six digs and two assists. Senior Grace Sperry had five kills, two blocks and an assist. Senior Josie Furnari had 17 digs, two assists, a kill and an ace. Baldo had three assists, an ace and a dig. Junior Maria Falso had five digs and a kill. Senior Emmy Lippitt had three aces. Senior Sophia Badgley had four kills and a dig.
Cooperstown (15-2) will play at No. 2 seed Beaver River (15-0), the defending Section III Class C champions, in the playoff semifinals Tuesday, Feb. 11.
