Hawkeyes sweep Mustangs on track

Boys win 86-50, girls win 89-25; meet moved to CCS Wednesday due to weather

Cooperstown opened it dual meet track season with two wins over visiting Mount Markham on Wednesday, April 6.

The boys won, 86-50, and the girls won, 89-25. The meet was scheduled for Thursday in West Winfield, but got moved because of bad weather projected for Thursday afternoon.

“We would like to start by thanking all of the volunteers, parents and guardians who helped us pull the meet together with less than 24-hours notice,” Cooperstown track coach Josie Rusk said. “We could not run our home meets successfully without the help of all those who volunteer to time, measure and record results.”

GIRLS TRACK
Cooperstown 89, Mount Markham 25

Cooperstown won all of the running events and swept all three top places in several events, including the 200, 400 and 1,500.

Mount Markham top finishers were Sara Edmonson taking second in the 100 hurdles, and third in the 100; Amber Piersma taking first in pole vault and second in long jump and high jump and Mackenzie Roth won both the discus and shot put.

BOYS TRACK
Cooperstown 85, Mount Markham 50

Gavin Lesko, Simon Hurysz and Oliver Wasson swept first place finishes in the sprints and Finn Holohan, Lincoln diLorenzo, Conrad Erway and Jeconiah Pawlowski swept first place finishes in all the field events; the lone exception was shot put, which Dominck Jones won for Mount Markham.

The relays and long distance races were split between Mount Markham and Cooperstown, with Lincoln diLorenzo winning the 1,600 for Cooperstown and Brandon Kinsley winning the 3,200 for Mount Markham. The Mustangs won the 400 and 3,200 relays, while Cooperstown took the 1,600 relay.
