Golf tops Mount Markham; baseball, softball lose to division leader West Canada Valley

TENNIS
Cooperstown wins Center State Conference
Cooperstown won four out of five championships to clinch the Center State Conference title Thursday, May 2, at Utica’s Parkway Tennis Center.
At first singles, senior Isaiah George defeated Sauquoit Valley’s Quincy Stayton in the finals.
At second singles, exchange student Eero Aho defeated Canastota’s Donovan Schmidt in the finals.
At third singles, eighth grader Henry Ayers defeated Mount Markham’s Robert Huntley in the finals.
At first doubles, junior Alexis Wolfe and sophomore Bianca Adam defeated the Morrisville-Eaton team of Cameron Winn and Greg Dake in the finals.
Cooperstown (11-0, 3-0) will host LaFayette for a non-conference match Saturday, May 4.
GOLF
Cooperstown 190, Mount Markham 209
Freshman Brayden Sentz won medalist honors with a 42 at Leatherstocking Golf Course’s front nine, par 35 course as Cooperstown won a Center State Conference East Division match over Mount Markham on Thursday.
Asher Pasquale shot a 47 to lead Mount Markham (0-3, 0-3).
Charlie Lambert (44), Jackson Crisman (51) and Payton Whiteman (53) rounded out the scoring for Cooperstown (4-1, 2-0), which is at Adirondack for a CSC non-division match Friday, May 3.
SOFTBALL
West Canada Valley 10, Cooperstown 8
Senior Tori France went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored but Cooperstown lost a Center State Conference Division II game at West Canada Valley on Thursday.
Trailing 10-5 going into the final inning, the Hawkeyes scored three runs when France singled, junior Grace Sperry had an RBI double, sophomore Katie Crippen tripled and junior Bella Reich hit a sacrifice fly to score Crippen. The Hawkeyes had runners at first and third when WCV made the final out.
Sophomore Evie Baldo went 3-for-4 with a double. Crippen went 2-for-4 with a double and triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Sperry went 2-for-4 with the double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Junior Emmy Lippitt took the loss, giving up 10 hits and walking three, while striking out six.
Jenna Beam went 2-for-4 and scored three runs for West Canada Valley (7-1, 5-0).
Cooperstown hosts Fort Plain for a non-conference game Saturday, May 4.
BASEBALL
West Canada Valley 15, Cooperstown 4
Junior Adam Ubner went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored but Cooperstown lost a Center State Conference Division II game at West Canada Valley on Thursday.
West Canada scored six runs in the bottom of the first, and led after five innings, 8-4, before putting seven runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Iain Farber went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs scored and a triple for West Canada Valley (7-1, 4-0).
Senior Ben Katz tripled and scored a run for Cooperstown (6-5, 3-2), which hosts Holland Patent for a non-conference game Saturday.
