BASEBALL
Cooperstown 3, Poland 1
Senior Aaron Katz hit a game-winning, two run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Cooperstown a Center State Conference Division II win Friday, May 2, at Doubleday Field.
Junior Wyatt Butts, senior Adam Ubner and sophomore Brody Murdock also got hits.
Sophomore Elijah McCaffrey had an RBI as the Hawkeyes rallied with a three-run sixth inning.
McCaffrey struck out 10 batters in six innings to earn the win, allowing one earned run on eight hits. Murdock earned the save, pitching the seventh inning, striking out two and allowing just one hit.
The Hawkeye outfield made two huge plays in the game to eliminate Poland from getting runners in scoring position. Butts threw a runner out at second base from right field. Plus, Ubner and junior Joey DeSanno executed a perfect relay to throw a runner out trying to advance to second base.
Cooperstown (2-2, 1-0) visits Little Falls for a CSC non-division match Saturday, May 3.
