Coach John Hodsgon shares Friday’s good news with the Cooperstown/Milford sports community:
GIRLS SWIMMING
Kane makes state meet
Milford freshman Emily Kane will represent Cooperstown/Milford at the NYSPHSAA Girls Federation Swimming Championship in Webster on Nov 17 and 18.
That's right, fourteen-year-old Emily "the Machine" Kane is going to States!
Friday, Nov, 3, at the Section III State Qualifiers in Syracuse, Kane took first place in the 200 Individual Medley. This first-place finish guarantees her entry into the States Championship which will be held in two weeks. Emily swam an incredible 200 IM, "el event de la muerte", and came from behind to win. Swimming 50 yards of butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, Emily finished with a 2:17.26, which is her personal record.
This was an amazing achievement, Emily is the youngest of 22 girls from Section III who will move on to compete at the state level.
Emily also swam the fastest 100 breaststroke of her life, a jaw dropping 1:09.56, and finished in second place.
Joining Miss Kane at the qualifier were three outstanding athletes from the program: Caitlin O'Sullivan, Alana Peitruszka and Jaina Bischof. This unruly gang swam the 200 Medley Relay in 2:05.18.Â
After the relay, O'Sullivan also qualified to swim the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle at this event and did an amazing job. A 2:09.11 in the 200 free and a 1:09.04 in the 100 butterfly were personal records for this fierce competitor.
This is almost the end of the 2023 girls varsity swim season, thank you parents and thank you swimmers.Â
What an incredible year, I can't wait for 2024!
Sincerely,
John Hodgson
