Perrino makes state wrestling quarterfinals

Cooperstown Junior Matthew Perrino won his first two matches at 215 pounds in Division II of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Wrestling Championships in Albany’s MYP Arena on Friday, Feb. 28.
Seeded 11th overall with an at-large bid, Perrino (34-13) won his first match by pinfall over Finn Sheridan from Trinity School. He then upset Christopher Doshna, the sixth seed and Section III Division II champion from Marcellus, who was 36-1 going into the match.
Perrino lost in the quarterfinal round, 4-3, to Chris Howett (34-4) from Pioneer, the Section VI champion and No. 2 seed.
Saturday morning, Perrino will wrestle in the “blood round” which determines if he will place at the state tournament via the consolation bracket or will end his trip to the tournament 2-2.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with matches beginning at 10.
