Section III DII Tournament
Junior Matthew Perrino won an at-large bid to the state wrestling tournament with a third-place finish Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Section III Division II Wrestling Championship at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.
CNY wrestling listed his junior-year record as 28-11 going into the tournament.
Perrino went 3-1 before the final match. He lost in the semifinals to David Frazee of Southern Hills, 6-4. He pinned Carter Madison of Dolgeville in 1:21 and decisioned Mason Sturtevant, the No. 3 seed from Adirondack, 10-1, to reach the semifinals.
In the consolation bracket, Perrino beat Owen Burhans of Homer, the No. 4 seed, in 2:03 to get to the podium match.
In the third-place match, Perrino beat Kadyn Derby from Mount Markham, 3-2.
The NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships will take place Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1, at MVP Arena in Albany. Perrino will compete in Division II, comprised of athletes from Class B, C and D level schools.
Junior Max Koffer also won a medal at 124 pounds, finishing 3-2 on the day, and beating Davian Phan from Holland Patent, in the fifth-place match, 18-2.
Seniors David Pitt (131) and Max Sharf (285) and freshman Max Pelcer (108) also represented the Cooperstown/Milford squad in Syracuse.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cooperstown 50, West Canada Valley 46
Seventh grader Emma Johnson scored 19 points as Cooperstown held on for a non-division road win Saturday, Feb. 15, to close the regular season at West Canada Valley.
The Hawkeyes led after one quarter, 13-3, and at halftime, 34-18. However, the Nighthawks outscored the Hawkeyes in the third quarter, 20-6, making the fourth quarter competitive.
Johnson also had six rebounds and a steal.
Junior Katie Crippen had a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Mia Kaltenbach scored seven points, senior Brenna Seamon scored six points and senior Bella Reich scored five points.
Brooke Reddington scored 19 points to lead West Canada Valley (14-6).
Cooperstown (16-4, 6-2) awaits its seeding for the Section III Class C Tournament and will likely have a home playoff game at the end of the week.
